Why Kim Kardashian and Kanye West Should Get a Prenup

News of their new engagement is all over the media tabloids. Reality show star Kim Kardashian is engaged to the musical Kanye West. Whenever couples take on the journey to becoming one, they hope that their marriage will last forever and their commitment will stay strong. However, with two people who have such high net worth, it would definitely be in their best interests to protect themselves by drafting a prenuptial agreement. A prenup can save celebrity couples so much time and money just in the off chance that the marriage does not last.

With a net worth of $40-$50 million Kim Kardashian does not have the best marriage track record, with her last marriage lasting only 72 days. Kanye West is reported to have upwards of $100 million and both individuals are set on growing their money empires. In order to avoid a potential messy divorce down the road, celebrities couples like Kanye and Kim should definitely invest time in making an ironclad prenuptial agreement. In today's society, celebrities with a significant net worth should always sign a prenup prior to saying "I DO" otherwise a divorce could turn it into a bad public relations move.

So how do couples set up an ironclad prenuptial agreement? In this case Kim and Kanye will have to be open and disclose their full net worth including monetary assets, stocks, real estate properties, cash and other type of assets that they may have. It may be difficult for them to be honest and upfront with this, but it is necessary in order for the prenup to be legally sound.

The couple will also have to take into consideration how the marriage will impact their fame, popularity, earning potential and overall empire branding. For example, typically the spouse that is wronged in the relationship experiences an explosion in fan support and popularity and the spouse that ends things is put down by fans on social media and may even have a lower earning potential for a period of time.

Prenuptial agreements are also effected by the birth of new children and the overall length of the marriage. The agreement should be written with future children in mind and that is something that Kanye and Kim will have to discuss. It is also important for couples remember that there is a sunset clause with most prenuptial agreements. This means that if a marriage last longer than a specific number of years, then the prenup is no longer in effect.

As Kanye and Kim enter in this marriage union, they could have peace of mind regarding the future of their empires with an ironclad prenuptial agreement in place. Here is to a marriage that lasts longer than 72 days!
